  1. Dennis,
What news did you share last night @ 11PM about one of the WFSB team? I fell asleep after a very long day, not because of the news (honest). Can you please share?

    Thanks,

    Maggi

  2. Wow! I didn’t know you were married to Kara!

  3. Dennis,
I saw the story about the dog, cat and rat in CA. About 5 years ago while I was in Key West there was the same thing walking around led by what I assume was a homeless man ( he was carrying a can for tips when people took their picture). Wonder if it is the same person? Also, congratulations on the new baby!

  4. Please except my condolences. i am so sorry.

  5. i am deeply saddened to hear about the loss of your baby. my condolences to you and kara. you will be in our prayers.

  6. Dear Dennis and Kara,

I am sorry for the loss of your baby. You are in my prayers ad I hope to see you back on Better Yet Connecticut when you feel it is the right time Kara. You ar greatly missed.

  7. I think the judgement of Sarah Palin is in question, a adult
who thinks its alright for a 18 year old boy to get married
just to make it look good for her 17 year old pregnant
daughter says that if you cant have good judgement for your family, then you probably wont have good judgement for a whole country.,someone will have to tell you what to do, so then you are just a puppet with a good teleprompter.
Sarah also tried to hide her pregnacy and kept birth information from her family until she could no longer hide it
so her speech of pro life a speech until you get caught, thn hide it and then scramble to spin it..she seemed ashamed of her own pregnacy by hiding of her showing and even worst by promoting that a 18 and 17 year old get married that havent even grown up yet. It also sends a improper message to our youth of our families which are are future.
they dont have the maturity of mind at 17 and 18 and still
have their future to develope. It is just a bad idea for the president and vice president of our country to send that type of message to our youth.

  8. I believe that McCain made a great choice when he picked Palin to be his running mate. Not only will McCain appeal to women more, but it shows a completely different side of him. I am a Democrat, but I just can’t bring myself to vote for the Democratic nominee. Once I heard about Palin, I decided to listen up a little more and watch their speeches and I must say – I’m voting for them. Even though she doesn’t have a lot of experience, she has the qualities necessary to be successful in politics – which is shown from her record. As far as the people who speak negatively about her daughter being pregnant, getting married at such a young age, etc. – shouldn’t we be focusing more on the real issues? No, I don’t condone teenage pregnancy, but things happen! Even when you are being careful, mistakes are made. And to L. Anderson – Palin never said the only reason her daughter is marrying the 18 year old father is because she got pregnant. Maybe they are completely in love with each other, which makes this decision a good one. And just because she didn’t announce it to the world when it happened, doesn’t mean she was hiding anything. It is a family issue that shouldn’t be considered when making your decision. Her daughter’s pregnancy will not have an effect on how Palin can run a country. If Palin can get elected as Governor of Alaska with 4 kids, get pregnant and have a baby during her term and still manage to be a great leader, I think we are in good hands.

  9. It was great to see Mike Peters again. The city of Hartford needs for Mayor Mike to run again.Perez has proven to be an ineffetive mayor for to long. With Peters you have a person that feels the pulse of the city, the problems of(crime, city corruption).Just look at how many companies have moved out of Hartford in recent years,it tell you we need new leadership.I hope Mayor Mike will make a good recovery to is health, because Hartford really needs him…..Thank You.

  10. Loved your article about the big 3. As a GM retiree family here in CT it is so hard to get people to understand the truth. Sure management screwed up big time that’s not the workers fault. Had to sit here in work yesterday and listen to people going on about how bad these companies are and don’t give them a loan. Our goverment had no problem giving our tax dollars to big financial institutions that had worse management. Your right people do and should have the right to buy whatever they want but I’m tired of hearing complaints from people who know nothing about mechanics complain about how bad american cars are. There are lemons in all brands. The media is just as bad. All the young people want are foreign brands. They don’t even look into american made. Its funny during WWII it was the big 3 that retooled and helped win the war but now when the american worker needs help everyone’s attitued is stick it to them.

  11. Dear Dennis and Kara:

My husband and I have had several conversations about whether you and Kara had your second child. I was shocked when I read the condolences while trying to get information. You have our deepest sympathy!

I grew up in Manchester, NH and watched a lot of WMUR. They were the only station who refused to televise the families of the guardsmen killed in Vietnam many years ago!

    Sincerely,
    Judy and Glen Mudre

  12. Dennis, we watched from 5:00 o’clock evening news and wondered why no one turned your suit jacket collar down. I would have called if I had a number to reach you. You are always so dapper – someone on the set should have noticed.

Amid AIG Furor, Dodd Tries to Undo Bonus Protections He Put In

    Rich Edson
    FOXBusiness

Senator Chris Dodd (D-Conn.) on Monday night floated the idea of taxing American International Group (AIG: 0.9507, 0.1706, 21.87%) bonus recipients so the government could recoup some or all of the $450 million the company is paying to employees in its financial products unit. Within hours, the idea spread to both houses of Congress, with lawmakers proposing an AIG bonus tax.

The move represents somewhat of an about-face for the Senator.

While the Senate was constructing the $787 billion stimulus last month, Dodd added an executive-compensation restriction to the bill. That amendment provides an “exception for contractually obligated bonuses agreed on before Feb. 11, 2009” –– which exempts the very AIG bonuses Dodd and others are now seeking to tax.

The amendment made it into the final version of the bill, and is law.

Separately, Sen. Dodd was AIG’s largest single recipient of campaign donations during the 2008 election cycle with $103,100, according to opensecrets.org.

Dodd’s office did not immediately return a request for comment.

One of AIG Financial Products’ largest offices is based in Connecticut.

    Dodd Amendment Rules

    * Crack down on bonuses, retention awards and incentive compensation: Bonuses can only be paid in the form of long-term restricted stock, equal to no greater than 1/3 of total annual compensation, and will vest only when taxpayer funds are repaid. There is an exception for contractually obligated bonuses agreed on before Feb. 11, 2009.
    * For institutions that received assistance totaling less than $25 million, the bonus restriction applies to the highest compensated employee; $25 million to $250 million, applies to the top five employees; $250 million to $500 million, applies to the senior executive officers and the next top 10 employees; and more than $500 million applies to the senior executive officers and the next top 20 employees (or such higher number as the Secretary determines is in the public interest).
