  1. Dennis,
What news did you share last night @ 11PM about one of the WFSB team? I fell asleep after a very long day, not because of the news (honest). Can you please share?

    Thanks,

    Maggi

  2. Wow! I didn’t know you were married to Kara!

  3. Dennis,
I saw the story about the dog, cat and rat in CA. About 5 years ago while I was in Key West there was the same thing walking around led by what I assume was a homeless man ( he was carrying a can for tips when people took their picture). Wonder if it is the same person? Also, congratulations on the new baby!

  4. Please except my condolences. i am so sorry.

  5. i am deeply saddened to hear about the loss of your baby. my condolences to you and kara. you will be in our prayers.

  6. Dear Dennis and Kara,

I am sorry for the loss of your baby. You are in my prayers ad I hope to see you back on Better Yet Connecticut when you feel it is the right time Kara. You ar greatly missed.

  7. I think the judgement of Sarah Palin is in question, a adult
who thinks its alright for a 18 year old boy to get married
just to make it look good for her 17 year old pregnant
daughter says that if you cant have good judgement for your family, then you probably wont have good judgement for a whole country.,someone will have to tell you what to do, so then you are just a puppet with a good teleprompter.
Sarah also tried to hide her pregnacy and kept birth information from her family until she could no longer hide it
so her speech of pro life a speech until you get caught, thn hide it and then scramble to spin it..she seemed ashamed of her own pregnacy by hiding of her showing and even worst by promoting that a 18 and 17 year old get married that havent even grown up yet. It also sends a improper message to our youth of our families which are are future.
they dont have the maturity of mind at 17 and 18 and still
have their future to develope. It is just a bad idea for the president and vice president of our country to send that type of message to our youth.

  8. I believe that McCain made a great choice when he picked Palin to be his running mate. Not only will McCain appeal to women more, but it shows a completely different side of him. I am a Democrat, but I just can’t bring myself to vote for the Democratic nominee. Once I heard about Palin, I decided to listen up a little more and watch their speeches and I must say – I’m voting for them. Even though she doesn’t have a lot of experience, she has the qualities necessary to be successful in politics – which is shown from her record. As far as the people who speak negatively about her daughter being pregnant, getting married at such a young age, etc. – shouldn’t we be focusing more on the real issues? No, I don’t condone teenage pregnancy, but things happen! Even when you are being careful, mistakes are made. And to L. Anderson – Palin never said the only reason her daughter is marrying the 18 year old father is because she got pregnant. Maybe they are completely in love with each other, which makes this decision a good one. And just because she didn’t announce it to the world when it happened, doesn’t mean she was hiding anything. It is a family issue that shouldn’t be considered when making your decision. Her daughter’s pregnancy will not have an effect on how Palin can run a country. If Palin can get elected as Governor of Alaska with 4 kids, get pregnant and have a baby during her term and still manage to be a great leader, I think we are in good hands.

  9. It was great to see Mike Peters again. The city of Hartford needs for Mayor Mike to run again.Perez has proven to be an ineffetive mayor for to long. With Peters you have a person that feels the pulse of the city, the problems of(crime, city corruption).Just look at how many companies have moved out of Hartford in recent years,it tell you we need new leadership.I hope Mayor Mike will make a good recovery to is health, because Hartford really needs him…..Thank You.

  10. Loved your article about the big 3. As a GM retiree family here in CT it is so hard to get people to understand the truth. Sure management screwed up big time that’s not the workers fault. Had to sit here in work yesterday and listen to people going on about how bad these companies are and don’t give them a loan. Our goverment had no problem giving our tax dollars to big financial institutions that had worse management. Your right people do and should have the right to buy whatever they want but I’m tired of hearing complaints from people who know nothing about mechanics complain about how bad american cars are. There are lemons in all brands. The media is just as bad. All the young people want are foreign brands. They don’t even look into american made. Its funny during WWII it was the big 3 that retooled and helped win the war but now when the american worker needs help everyone’s attitued is stick it to them.

  11. Dear Dennis and Kara:

My husband and I have had several conversations about whether you and Kara had your second child. I was shocked when I read the condolences while trying to get information. You have our deepest sympathy!

I grew up in Manchester, NH and watched a lot of WMUR. They were the only station who refused to televise the families of the guardsmen killed in Vietnam many years ago!

    Sincerely,
    Judy and Glen Mudre

  12. Dennis, we watched from 5:00 o’clock evening news and wondered why no one turned your suit jacket collar down. I would have called if I had a number to reach you. You are always so dapper – someone on the set should have noticed.

Amid AIG Furor, Dodd Tries to Undo Bonus Protections He Put In

    Rich Edson
    FOXBusiness

Senator Chris Dodd (D-Conn.) on Monday night floated the idea of taxing American International Group (AIG: 0.9507, 0.1706, 21.87%) bonus recipients so the government could recoup some or all of the $450 million the company is paying to employees in its financial products unit. Within hours, the idea spread to both houses of Congress, with lawmakers proposing an AIG bonus tax.

The move represents somewhat of an about-face for the Senator.

While the Senate was constructing the $787 billion stimulus last month, Dodd added an executive-compensation restriction to the bill. That amendment provides an “exception for contractually obligated bonuses agreed on before Feb. 11, 2009” –– which exempts the very AIG bonuses Dodd and others are now seeking to tax.

The amendment made it into the final version of the bill, and is law.

Separately, Sen. Dodd was AIG’s largest single recipient of campaign donations during the 2008 election cycle with $103,100, according to opensecrets.org.

Dodd’s office did not immediately return a request for comment.

One of AIG Financial Products’ largest offices is based in Connecticut.

    Dodd Amendment Rules

    * Crack down on bonuses, retention awards and incentive compensation: Bonuses can only be paid in the form of long-term restricted stock, equal to no greater than 1/3 of total annual compensation, and will vest only when taxpayer funds are repaid. There is an exception for contractually obligated bonuses agreed on before Feb. 11, 2009.
    * For institutions that received assistance totaling less than $25 million, the bonus restriction applies to the highest compensated employee; $25 million to $250 million, applies to the top five employees; $250 million to $500 million, applies to the senior executive officers and the next top 10 employees; and more than $500 million applies to the senior executive officers and the next top 20 employees (or such higher number as the Secretary determines is in the public interest).

  16. Dennis : watch you about every night on news . Have recently seen a promotion featuring you and other Ch3 personalities. The audio portion is a female vocalist singing a beautiful song. The song is by Brandi Carlile and is called “The Story”

    Ed Foreman

  20. Dear Dennis;
I am hoping you could find out the name of the advertising song for Channel 3
    ..so many stories….
(I even love the song itself)
    Thanks

  21. Please tell me the name of who sings your Channel 3 jingle
…so many stories to be told…Thanks

  22. There is a certain irony in the comments you made about how people are turning their backs on Hartford. WFSB did the same thing. You had the opportunity to remain in Hartford and instead your company opted to move to Rocky Hill. This is another example of the hypocrisy in the media.

    • As you probably know the decision to move was not mine. I am merely an employee of WFSB.

  23. Dennis,

I see you blogged about many topics such as politics, sports, vacations, etc. Do you ever take any sports-related vacations?

  24. Mr House

I’ve left some not so nice comments concerning Hartford on your blog. My main arguement is Hartford will NEVER be a “cool” interesting city BECAUSE of the way its run.

I have a real life example of this now.

I am working the Taste of the Nation in Hartford today.

My restaurant, as well as 30 or so others are giving GIFT CERTIFICATES, AUCTION PRICES (AT NO CHARGE TO THE EVEN), FOOD, OUR TIME, OUR EMPLOYEES, OUR NAME…..all in the name of good will and to an event that supposedly goes to all the important cities of the USA.

I’ve asked two question to the organizer, Bill Grant. After recieving these two answers, I said to myself…”Stop, don’t find out any more info, cause its simply gonna PISS you off and you will blow the whole thing off…”

Q: Where can I unload my stuff:
A: Go to the second floor of the parking garage, don’t unload in front of the building, the POLICE ARE TICKETING…
“THE POLICE ARE TICKETING” Nice, nice way to treat businesses that aren’t even located in Hartford and are DONATINGE EVERYTHING. Why are they ticketing? Because of the massive TRAFFIC on mainstreet? Typical Hartford.

Q: Where can I park my vehicle?
A: Park in the parking garage, the are only charging $4 to park……………….”FOUR DOLLARS TO PARK,….ONLY”
I guess NOT charging for parking a car DONATING their time and money would just be too much……Again, typical Hartford.

I know these are small things, but small things add up and all these little hideous decisions hartford continually makes, ESPECIALLY not being grateful for ANY businesses in Hartford is SIMPLY why Hartford will NEVER amount to a hill of Beans.

Let me go get these 3 hours overwith and not let the city get in the way of sharing some time with generous, caring people.

    • Are you kidding? You cheap lazy miserable person. Yes if you park illegally you can get a ticket. Yes you have to pay to park downtown, like any other city in the world. What a lunatic.

  25. I would like to comment on immigration comments that I say on the new yesterday. For the President of Mexico to come to this country and say anything about the immigration problem in this country and for our President to agree with him is WRONG when the President of Mexico is part of the problem.

He is should be working on his side of the boarder to help stop people from cominng over here illegally and help us solve the problem. The Governor of Arizona is within her legal rights to do what ever she needs to do to secure the state boarder if the Fedeal Governorment is doing a poor job.

Governor Rell would be under pressure to do something here in Connecticut if we were on the boarder with Mexico and people were invading our back yards, and adding to our state defict ie. medical, crime, and schools.

  26. As an Analyst, it is my job to look at data from several perspectives, interpret the data, and develop it into valuable information. After just three months of living in Connecticut I noticed there were relatively few people my age. Over the next nine months of attending the university, socializing, and seeking a home, I quickly realized why. Connecticut has the same problems
facing California. I left California because the entire education and government systems are not only biased, they flat out “suck”, for lack of a better term. Although Connecticut is currently better than California in this regard, it will quickly surpass California because of the following.

I use the analogy that the baby-boomer “entitlement” generation has already eaten half the pie, as they should have for this is their “rationed” portion based on diminished resources. However, the younger generations are asking that they save us at least a portion of what we’ve
unwillingly paid for. The response is basically to ignore us because they feel they deserve the whole pie, regardless of who helped pay for it. From our perspective, it appears that both local and federal governments are graduates of the Bernie Madoff School of Economics and Social Responsibility.

Where is the state going to get the income and sales tax revenues to pay for basic services once the younger generations get fed up with the neglect and follow Moses to greener pastures? How many more young people will be forced to follow after the resulting tax burden is distributed amongst those who remain? And, will they care once their former home becomes a welfare state with government services resembling a third world country? I’ve yet to rationalize eating the whole pie then firing the baker.

Unlike most people, I do not blame government for everything, for this is still a country “of the people, by the people and for the people.” The responsibility lies with those who allowed government to be hijacked by lobbyist and special interest from multinational corporations.

I do not envy those in Connecticut’s many municipalities and governing bodies. Like the federal government, someone will open the hull of the ship one day only to realize they’ve been taking on water for years and they only have a thimble to bail it out.

    I’m already gone,

    Joe The Baker

P.S. Peter Schiff For Connecticut State Senator

    • I have to agree with you with you comments that you posted. A lot of the generation today, have this me mentality, and the hell with the rest of the world.

Connecticut has a lot of big money, and with that comes corruption, as you have seen in the past few days unfold with the Mayor of Hartford.

I have lived here pretty much all my life and I have seen the state change for the worst over the years. It’s not about the state or the people of the state anymore it’s about that me mentality. What can I get out of the system, or how can I gain politically.

Many have a way of bending the truth, as Dennis has been reporting here on his blog about those are looking to be elected into office in November to represent the State in Washington.

Say what you mean, and mean what you say is my pholosphy.

As far as our Federal government goes, they are to busy with thier own Political Agendas, and don’t want to rock the boat, like what is going on in Arizona with the new immigration law.

Why would this government want to waste tax dollars, and time to take a state to court for enforcing Federal laws that have been in place for years on the issue of illegal immigration? If you ask me they should have been doing thier jobs and we would not have 12 million illegal undocumented immigrants in this country that are now rallying on the street demaining that law makers stand up for their ritghts.

Right? What rights? They are undocumented illegal immigrants! It has nothing to do with profiling, or not wanting them here. But it has everything to do with the invasion of this country.

There are only a few lawmakers, and I consider the governor of Arizona one of them that will stand up and do what is right. Most of them are not willing to stand up and do what is right, becuase they are not willing to rock the boat, becuase it would cost them the Hispanic vote.

That to me is looking out for your own Political agenda, and not for the people that you are in office to serve.

I sure hope that when the Obama adminstration takes Arizona to court the court will see it my way, and throw the case out and tell uncle Sam to take Arizona’s lead for real immigration reform.

      • The Role of Government. This has been the discussion for our Senators but neither of them is getting it. The role of government should be to protect its citizens from foreign or domestic enemies. According to this blog, government itself is the problem. The BP oil spill can be an example of foreign enemy. Because of the company’s disregard for our laws and regulations, lives were lost, the local natural resources were endangered, and the livelihood of many was jeopardized. The Salmonella outbreak could be an example of a domestic enemy. A chicken farm with many documented violations may have killed as many as 10,000 Americans across this country. That’s three times 9-11. I am concerned that our potential Senator (whomever that may be) seem to think the role of government is to create jobs. The only way government can actually create jobs is by creating another government agency. Frankly I do not think Government needs to be inflated, downsized at a minimum, but right sized so that sound qualified employees have the tools and resources they need to perform their jobs. As we saw with the Wall Street Bailout and the Big Auto Bailout, an influx of tax dollars does not guarantee jobs. What is most frustrating about the chicken farm is there was nothing our government could do to stop it and there is nothing they can do to prevent it from happening again. So my question to the Senators is how are you going to right size government so they can perform their “protect and serve” duties?

  27. Dennis;

Have you seen this http://blogs.abcnews.com/nightlinedailyline/2010/06/armed-bank-robbery-what-would-you-do.html ?

I don’t like going into banks now becuase of things like this and it seems that things are getting worst. I guess more of us are going to have to rely on doing our banking on-line.

  28. The fact that Wieker is on the board of the WWE disqualifies him from making judgment on any about anyone. He did the whole state an injustice when allowed casinos in the state. Ask him how he and his cronies benefited from that decision. The guy is dispicable and should be classed with all the other greedy polticians that put their own interests above the people of CT.

    • Arnie, Weicker did the same thing with the Whalers. He sold them to Peter Karmanos–over a local owner–and then Weicker decides not to run for re-election (which would remove him from the position of having to negotiate a deal with Karmanos to keep the Whalers in Hartford) and ends up on the board of the company Karmanos owns.

Weicker deserves to be in jail. He is a disgusting excuse for a human being. Also, don’t forget he brought the “temporary” state income tax as well.

  29. Dennis,

I was taken aback to hear you tell Linda McMahon, about Al Franken, “You didn’t see people attacking HIM for some of the silly skits he did in HIS career.”

But I saw that often during Franken’s campaign. Here’s one example:
    http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=91308954

  30. Disappointed that Lamont opposes paid sick leave for employees. They come to work sick and spread disease and get sicker themselves. Seems inhumane.

  31. Dennis, For the upcoming gubernatorial debates how about asking each candidate for their thoughts on reverting to a 35 hour work week for all state employees, as was done in the past, as a cost savings for the state.

  32. Dennis,
It has come to my attention that you will be hosting a gubernatorial debate this week. My question is why are there only two candidates in the debate? There are three candidates running. Why is Tom Marsh not included in these events? The democrat and the republican parties have a lot of money to spend. Mr. Marsh is running as an independent. Because of his lack of media mention (not coverage and not advertising just mention he’s running) I did not know he was running until the CCM conference last week. He actually has a plan. If he can’t win at least he can give the other guys something to think about. But frankly that should be the voters’ choice. We rely on the media to give us all the facts so that we can make sound decisions. Leaving out a third candidate is not all the facts. Although it is last minute and may be considered crass, I would hope you will extend the invite.

  33. Yes Dennis, this is a fair question! Please let us know why!

  34. So why do we not see coverage of ALL of candidates for governor? I’m not happy hearing some reporters saying “one of these 2 candidates will be our next governor”. While it may be a realistic statement, it does not help to remind the voters that they have a choice beyond Foley & Malloy. Where is the thoroughness on the part of the media? Where is the accuracy? Does the media only pay attention to the monied candidates?

    • After much thoughtful discussion we decided not to include the independent candidates in the debate, a practice that was also followed in the debates on WTNH and WTIC.

  35. Dennis have you seen this story? Is this one that channel 3 would do one on? http://www.wreg.com/videobeta/8ba6f8fc-90a2-4711-90ea-1884ec348310/News/Electronic-Pickpocket

I think it is something that the citizens of the state should know about.

    Thanks

  36. Dennis:
Great show as usual. If Mr. Bannon really thinks we have a business friendly state we are doomed!

  37. Dennis,

We’ve noticed that your suit coats no longer fit properly. Time to look in the mirror. Also, tonight’s striped navy suit w/teal checked squares make you look like a clown! All you need is a red nose and big red shoes…………..Hello Barnum and Bailey’s……….

  38. hi dennis, there have been rumors about you in italy, recently. several newspapers from abruzzo wrote news about you looking for your ancestors in Alanno or Cugnoli. If this is true i would like you to know that i’m an Alanno native and my grandmother was giuseppina chiulli. You can contact me to this email address if you like, i’d be glad to help you in your research.

    thanks

    kind regards

  39. The best small town in America is all about corrupt politicians.www.essexwikileaks.com the truth will be heard…God Bless

  40. love your show

    • Thank you!

  41. I’m glad to hear you were able to the get the vaunted Sunday liquor sales question to the State Senate panelists on the April 3rd show.
A just wondering question; isn’t prime real estate and downtown Hartford an oxymoron?

  42. Dennis,

I didn’t catch the name of the gentleman you had on from Uconn this morning. I think he’s got the unemployment rate on a more accurate scale. I know a lot of people who are over forty five that CANNOT find jobs and their unemployment benefits have expired including myself. Those kinds of numbers need to be looked at so that the government might get the real state of the economy.

    Debbie

  43. Hi Dennis, Just want to let you know you do a great job as anchor, I love when you tease Denise and the comment above from March 2011 about your clothes…….who died and left that woman the Fashion police!!! I’m sure you look fine!!!

  44. face the state- union reps
You need to start reading the comments (before they were edited) on inthistogetherct.org or even read their facebook page which cannot be edited. Just telling the public about why union members are againt Malloy’s “bargaining”. Look at the Sustinet web page- state workers are listed on it- yet the union pretends some anti-union worker has sabatoged the mail system to send out incorrect info, Union members are tired of being lied to. The info is under your nose- start reading and double checking the posts and website links. Stop making the ct workers a scapegoat

  45. when is the state goning to stop from texting while driving what do think about this

  46. Dennis–Just want you to know that my wife Cara and I always enjoy your “commentary”–such as tonight’s comment, “Doesn’t he watch ‘Cops’? You never get away with it!”

We are regular viewers, have been for years, and will continue to stick with you and WFSB. Great work, sir.

    • Tim. Thank you so much! Those chases are so silly.
Glad you enjoy watching Eyewitness News.

  47. Back in the mid eighties my youngest daughter started calling Charlie Bagley, Uncle Charlie (she was around 5-6 years old). I guess it was because my day started listening for his forecast and I watched him on Channel 3 weather reports, she must have felt like he was part of the family!

  48. You are right, you will not be mandated into the public option Right away at least. Unfortunately if you read the bill it states that if you decided to Change jobs, change your health care or change your provider then you have to go to the Public Option. On top of all this, Obama clearly said in 2007? to SEIU that the single payer system may take up to 15 years to completely go into the single payer system as not all companies will go to it right away.

  49. Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton were married twice

  50. Dennis when are you going to ask your guests harder questions. When the head of Northeast Utilities was on You seemed to ask soft questions and not press for better answers. Maybe it is time for you to do a I team report get out in the field.

    Just saying

  51. How any resident of the state of Connecticut could possibly root for the Patriots after what Kraft did to us is beyond me. All Kraft did was to use Connecticut as a pawn to get what he was after in Massachusetts and to hell with the people of this state. As far as I’m concerned, Kraft and the entire Patriots orginization are a bunch of low life losers who don’t deserve to play in the NFL nor any other national association.

  52. Why isn’t the death of the Vernon police officer mentioned on the news.

  53. Hi there,

I wanna share some idea about your website. Please ask your webmaster/editor to email me. Thank you.

    Cheers,
    Elizabeth Bridges

  54. Interesting. Quote: “After all, he used to live here and I and others tend to root for former Nutmeggers when they move on.”
I don’t remember one word about Glenn Beck from you or others at WFSB when he moved to Texas.

  55. Dennis I watch all the time that evening news. I would like to know if you could help me out on something. I need to know how I could donate to the police dog vest program? 2 and how do I get in on that facebook stock? Is there a number I can call cos I don’t know anything about trying to get in on facebook stocks. dennis if you could help me with these 2 things I would really appreciate it thank you so much. debra mason

  56. Mr Dennis House
I need your help is about a house representative I have all the prooff can hold my history my phone is 203 704 7901

  57. However, he is also part of the LIBERAL MEDIA!!!

    • Sybil, what makes you say that?

  58. I watched your interview with Mayor Segarra this morning. If everything is so good, why is the business community in Hartford so frustrated? Crime is high, even if murder rate was lower in 2012, taxes are very high. We’ve heard so many promises over the past several years…

  59. Dennis the mayor of Hartford is doing allot of promoting Hartford past few weeks. He doesn’t have much time to address the real needs in Hartford. That’s my thoughts.
